Originally I made these rolls intending them to be for Mother’s Day. (I came across these gooey rolls and KNEW I had to do a riff on them.)
And then I tasted them. And DAAAAAANG! They are GOOD!
I then decided that these rolls would be absolutely perfect on every day ending in “y”.
But most certainly any woman in your life would be thrilled to have one of these lovelies slid in front of them on Mother’s Day.
For some reason Mother’s Day has me envisioning bowls of fresh, newly-rinsed berries. Perhaps it’s their sweetness, or the alignment of the season with the holiday.
Or perhaps it’s just because I love berries and I love my mama.
As a youthful, dirty-kneed little whippersnapper I often earned the responsibility of gathering the strawberries, raspberries and blueberries for breakfast in the morning. If the wasps didn’t get ya, it was THE best job EVER!
I never retrieved nearly as many berries as I devoured. I came back with a half-empty bowl, praying that Mom wouldn’t notice the berry smears on my face. She never really said anything but I’m sure she knew.
These sweet rolls have all of that warm-days-nostalgia of fresh strawberries wrapped in the most pillowy, pull-apart, cream cheese slathered dough.
The cardamom in the cream cheese frosting adds a hint of spice and a bit of exotic flavor. A little twist on the usual sneaked in there to keep it fresh and exciting.
They’re everything I want my brunch to be. And everything that I want in my well-earned mama belly.
Happy Mother’s Day, y’all!
