The rustic charm of a Southern accent gets me every time. Something about the cadence is like Brahms’ lullaby that has a few yodels snuck in there.
Kinda like when you’re driving too far on the shoulder of the freeway and you hit those tiny bumps. At first they’re a bit jarring and then before you know it, you’re half asleep and snoring gently on the steering wheel.
Moral of the story: Don’t drive and listen to Johnny Cash.
These lemon berry shortcakes are essentially everything I love about that Southern charm. They’re rustic, warm and indulgent, and a bit fresh.
Best of all they hit that molten spot deep in your heart. A little bit of sweet ooze certainly never hurts.
I love that the biscuits aren’t very sweet but are oh-so flakey and balance with the sweet and tart of the lemon zest, gorgeous berry medley and whipped cream.
And let’s be honest, what kind of Southern treat would it be without some whipped cream and butter? 🙂
There will be shortcakes in my heaven.
