Anything as luscious and silky as avocado crema deserves its own post and lime-drenched moment in the sun.
I contemplated writing an Ode on a Green Avocado but my love just doesn’t run that deep. I’m more of a haiku kind of gal.
Born ‘neath the sun
Mayo of the gods
Taco’s creamy, floral friend
Yeah…it needs work. Apparently desire does not equate to talent.
But back to the avocado crema goodness. This rich, fragrant sauce encapsulates all of my favorite flavor-loaded Mexican ingredients: avocados, cilantro, lime juice, garlic and cumin. THAT is my kind of heaven!
Those, right there are must-haves in my pantry/fridge. Add some chocolate and maybe a salmon or two and I could survive on that for life.
“What do I do with this crema?“, you ask.
Well, I would (and have) spread this on anything remotely edible. However, here are a few uses:
- dressing on salad
- spread on burgers
- sub for mayo in sandwiches
- creamy binder in chicken/pasta/potato salad
- dip for wings
- topping for salmon
- or with salmon/crab cakes (YUM!!)
- sauce on tacos
- herbaceous dip for fries
- basically a counterbalance or dip for just about any spicy dish
I could go on but I’ll let you use the creativity that’s percolating in that noggin of yours.
It’s ridiculously easy to make and even easier to eat.
Stay tuned because I’ve got the perfect pairing coming to the blog soon: Honey-Chipotle Pulled Pork Tacos! They are BEGGING for a smear of velvety avocado crema.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
1 garlic clove, smashed
1/2 lime, juiced
1/2 cup sour cream
3/4 cup cilantro leaves
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper
*optional* squirt of sriracha
Put all of the ingredients in a blender or food processor and puree until smooth. (Add in the sriracha if you want the heat.) Taste and add more salt and pepper as needed. Serve with tacos, or sandwiches or anything your heart desires.
Make this your own! If you don’t like cilantro, use parsley instead. Kick up the heat or throw some orange juice instead of lime juice.
